Fort Worth’s “Whole Community” Approach Supports FWISD Families

  • December 10, 2019

As part of Mayor Price’s initiative to build Fort Worth as the Best Place for Kids!, several Fort Worth ISD elementary schools are opening their doors over the summer to connect families to community resources and help young children get acclimated to their school and teachers before the school year starts.

The first family engagement night was hosted at Edward J. Briscoe Elementary on Thursday, June 13th. Over 60 parents and children attended and met with 10 community partners and 20+ staff members who set up booths and activities for the families.

Families learn how to make healthy snacks with FitWorth.

A community-wide “Best Place for Kids!” Family Summer Kick-Off event is scheduled for Saturday, June 29th from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at UCC Bethlehem Center (951 Evans Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76104). Mayor Betsy Price will welcome families, who will have the opportunity to visit with community partners, get free vision screenings and other services, and enjoy food, face painting, and games!

Participating community partners include:

• AVANCE

• Concilio

• Cook Children’s

• FitWorth

• Fort Worth Library

• Fort Worth Zoo

• Fortress Youth Development Center

• Goodwill Digital Skills

• NewDay Services

• The Parenting Center

• UNTHSC Mobile Pediatric Clinic

• UNTHSC Mobile Vision Van

We are excited to have the opportunity to support Mayor Price’s vision to celebrate Fort Worth as the Best Place for Kids! – and to help local families and children connect to the valuable resources available within our community.
